Using participatory methods, we worked in partnership with the equity, diversity and inclusion team and user involvement representatives at the Terrence Higgins Trust to develop a service user involvement strategy, covering several aspects of the policies, cultures, practices and monitoring approaches. This included a review of and recommendations to enhance communication, remuneration and recognition, safe guarding, as well as technical support and innovation. We conducted an independent review of BHIVA's community, including its membership and subcommittees. This was a deep dive style exercise, exploring the identity, lived experiences, and characteristics of the broad BHIVA community, as well as BHIVA's culture, communications and activities. This included full design, deployment and analysis of an online survey plus in-depth interviews with members of the BHIVA community. The key outputs from this project included a report, which provides insights into how BHIVA is perceived from a broad EEDI perspective, looking at experiences within BHIVA, and highlighting areas where diversity and inclusion can be improved. The key review findings were presented at a national conference convened in Gateshead, UK.
